Jeremy Geddes is a hyperrealist painter born in 1974 in Wellington, New Zealand, and based in Melbourne, Australia, where he studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, earning his BFA in 1995 and his Honours degree in 1997. Since 2003 he has devoted himself exclusively to painting. He is internationally known for his series of cosmonauts and human figures floating, falling or drifting through empty landscapes and depopulated urban environments — scenes that fuse photorealism with post-apocalyptic surrealism to explore themes of isolation, vulnerability and the human condition facing the void. His meticulous technique — each painting can require between one and six months of work — produces works of photographic precision that challenge perception. He has received the Spectrum Gold Award and the Crichton Award, and is represented by Outré Gallery in Melbourne and Thinkspace Projects.
