Guim Tió Zarraluki is a Barcelona-based visual artist born in 1987. A graduate of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, his pictorial practice begins with a critical exploration of beauty standards imposed by mass media and popular culture. In his early phase he intervened directly on fashion magazine pages with oil, pastel and acrylic, transforming models into grotesque creatures with bug-like eyes and exaggerated features. His Unreal Spaces series, begun in 2017, marked a turn toward inner landscapes where the human figure merges with natural environments that embody emotional states. Zarraluki has exhibited in Barcelona, Taipei, Seoul, Marrakech, New York and Australia, and his work has appeared in publications including Juxtapoz. His execution is deliberately imperfect, gestural and spontaneous — a combination of figuration and distortion that oscillates between the absurd and the poetic.
