Aron Wiesenfeld

Aron Wiesenfeld is an American painter and draughtsman born in Washington D.C. in 1972. He studied at the Cooper Union School of Art in New York and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. After a brief career as a comic book illustrator — earning an Eisner Award nomination in 1997 for his work on Deathblow/Wolverine for Marvel — he returned to large-scale oil painting, where he found his true language. His works depict enigmatic figures — adolescents, young women — traversing desolate landscapes and empty urban environments with a presence that is simultaneously familiar and unsettling. Wiesenfeld describes his characters as refugees, pilgrims and wanderers trying to cross a river that is forever out of reach. He has exhibited in galleries across New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Amsterdam and Rome, and his work has appeared in publications including Juxtapoz, Hi-Fructose and Art in America.
